Press Release Body: Johnny Depp has been looking to buy a £5.5 million property near the Norfolk Broads, but if he does settle here, the Pirates of the Caribbean star would need to make sure that his home insurance would protect against the risk of flooding in the area, says Confused.com.
Johnny Depp and his partner, Parisian songstress Vanessa Paradis, are considering setting up home at Claxton Manor in South Norfolk. The 16th century manor house comes with eight bedrooms, six bathrooms and 826 acres of land, but it also comes with a warning from the environment agency about the risk of flooding from the nearby Norfolk Broads.
The proximity of Claxton Manor to the River Yare, part of the Broads, means that the environment agency rates its postcode area as a flood risk, and should therefore make sure that they are prepared for and protected against flooding; and insurance comparison site Confused.com suggests adequate href=\"http://www.confused.com/home-insurance\">home insurance as a good way to help safeguard properties.
Although 2008 hasn’t yet seen the extreme floods of last year, rainfall has again been heavy (rainfall for England just in the first half of August 2008 was 120% of the seasonal average, according to Met Office statistics). There is, therefore, a danger that riverbanks will burst as they struggle to cope with the excess water. And if the worst should happen, buildings and contents insurance could help with the potential costs associated with flood damage.
And Johnny and Vanessa have a large hoard of treasure to protect. Typical href=\"http://www.confused.com/home-insurance\">home insurance claims following the 2007 floods were in the region of £15-30k, but Mr Depp’s penchant for expensive paintings and art deco furniture could see that figure spiral into hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of pounds. The couple would also need contents cover for Vanessa’s jewellery and Johnny’s collection of film memorabilia.
If looking for home insurance for his Norfolk mansion, Confused.com advises Mr Depp to check the policy conditions carefully to make sure he’s adequately covered against flood. Indeed, the Manor’s location may mean that home insurance is only available through specialist insurance providers, especially if the property has suffered flooding in the past – something that Johnny needs to be certain of before handing over his pieces of eight.
The celebrity couple also need to see if alternative accommodation would be covered under their home insurance policy; although perhaps the family could just bunk in the Black Pearl for a few nights in the event of a flood. -ENDS- Notes to editors For further information please contact: Caroline Spindlove Confused.com 02920 434 398 Gug Kyriacou/ Joanna Harte Polhill Communications 020 7655 0550
